What it does
Proxy All Apps uses Android's built-in VPN service to send app traffic to a proxy server you control. You choose which apps go through it, and the rest of your phone is left alone. You can use your own proxy, or the one that VPN Hotspot & Proxy runs on another phone.
Choose your proxy type, and remember to select it
Proxy All Apps speaks two proxy languages: HTTP and SOCKS5. Each one uses its own port, so the type you select in the app has to match the port you enter.
HTTP port
Choose HTTP when you only need web traffic to go through the proxy. It uses HTTP CONNECT, which browsers and web-based apps use.
Select HTTP, then enter the HTTP port- With VPN Hotspot & Proxy, the HTTP port is the one you chose there (default 8080).
- Best for browsing and other web traffic.
- It does not carry other kinds of app traffic.
SOCKS5 port
Choose SOCKS5 when you want to route all the apps you selected. SOCKS5 carries any kind of app traffic, including UDP, which is why it is the one to use to tunnel everything.
Select SOCKS5, then enter the SOCKS5 port- With VPN Hotspot & Proxy, the SOCKS5 port is 10810.
- This is the default in the app.
- Best when you want every selected app to use the proxy.
| Proxy type | Port to enter (VPN Hotspot & Proxy) | What it routes |
|---|---|---|
| HTTP | Your chosen port, default 8080 | Web traffic |
| SOCKS5 | 10810 | All the apps you selected |
How to use it on your phone
-
Get your proxy details
Use your own proxy, or start VPN Hotspot & Proxy on another phone and note its address and ports.
-
Open Proxy All Apps
You will see Proxy IP and Port fields, a Proxy type switch and a Connect button.
-
Choose which apps use the proxy (optional)
Open the menu at the top right, tap Settings, then Allowed / Disallowed Applications.
- Disallowed Applications (default): the apps you tick skip the proxy and everything else uses it.
- Allowed Applications: only the apps you tick use the proxy. If you tick none, all apps go through it.
Open the Allowed or Disallowed applications list, tick your apps, and use search or sort to find them. Clear all selection resets both lists. You can change these only while disconnected.
-
Select the proxy type: HTTP or SOCKS5
Do not skip this step. Use the Proxy type switch to pick HTTP for web traffic, or SOCKS5 to route all apps. The line under the switch confirms what you picked.
-
Enter the Proxy IP and the matching port
Type the numeric IPv4 address, for example 192.168.1.2, and the port that goes with the type you selected: the HTTP port for HTTP, or the SOCKS5 port (such as 10810) for SOCKS5.
-
Tap Connect
The first time, Android asks you to allow a VPN connection. Tap OK. A Proxy is running notification appears, the button changes to Disconnect, and live upload and download speeds show on screen.
-
Use your apps, then disconnect when you are finished
The apps you selected send their traffic through the proxy. Tap Disconnect to go back to your normal connection.
Using it on Android TV
The TV version has a layout made for a remote control, with large buttons and a clear highlight.
-
Install and open the app
Install Proxy All Apps from Google Play on the TV, then open it from your apps row.
-
Move with the remote
Use the arrow keys to move. The control you are on turns orange, so you always know where you are. Press OK to select it.
-
Select the proxy type: HTTP or SOCKS5
Remember to select it. Move to the Proxy type button and press OK to switch between SOCKS5 (routes all apps) and HTTP (web traffic). The line below explains the one you chose.
-
Enter the address and the matching port
Select Proxy IP and press OK to open the on-screen keyboard (it opens only when you select a field), then type the IPv4 address. Do the same for Port, using the port that matches the type you picked.
-
Select Connect
Allow the Android VPN request when it appears. The button changes to Disconnect, and speeds and totals show on the left.
Troubleshooting
It connects, but nothing loads
First check that the proxy type and the port match: HTTP with the HTTP port, or SOCKS5 with the SOCKS5 port. Then check that the proxy is running and reachable from this device, and that the app you are using is not on your Disallowed list.
"Enter valid ip v4 address"
The address must be a numeric IPv4 address such as 192.168.1.2. Names like proxy.example.com are not accepted, and the port must be between 1 and 65535.
"First DISCONNECT the VPN in order to change settings"
Settings and the proxy type can only be changed while the app is disconnected. Tap Disconnect, change them, and connect again.
Another VPN stopped when I connected
Android allows only one VPN connection per device at a time, so connecting Proxy All Apps replaces another VPN on that same device.
Is the connection to my proxy encrypted?
HTTP and SOCKS5 do not encrypt the link between your device and the proxy by themselves. Encrypted HTTPS traffic stays encrypted end to end, but use a proxy you trust.
